After living in the Bay Area for almost a year, I finally tried Boudin Bakery this past week when I had family visiting. I didn't really expect much, but the tastes and smells made me realize I've been missing out this whole time!

Just outside the cafe they have a museum and workers making fresh sourdough in different shapes. It smells amazing.

The food was reasonably priced (make sure to check out the pick 2 combo if you can't make up your mind) and tasted delicious. Highly recommend getting any soup or chili in the bread bowl for an extra $2 or so! And the staff lets you swap out any sort of bread on your sandwich if you please.

I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich and the meat/avocado was alright, but the bread was terrific.

    I will definitely be back!

I think they are now coasting on the name recognition. Clam chowder was disappointing, tasted like it was out of a can. My Italian sandwich was ok and everything was served very sloppy.

We ordered one crab chowder but were given clam chowder instead. We told the guy we ordered crab chowder and after some back and forth of him telling us we had clam chowder he told someone else who told us they didn't have crab chowder. Should of told us at register but that guy really didn't seem to understand much of what we were saying either. I was asking about the bread on the sandwich and he really didn't seem to have a clue.

Overall pretty disappointing experience. Sandwich was slightly better than the Vacaville location but I think we are doing giving them a try. Much better options out there.

Disappointed. We flew into San Francisco and Boudin's was recommended by two people.  It's on Pier 39 which is very touristy and busy. They're known for their sourdough bread.

We got to the restaurant and there is a patio with several tables and chairs. Unfortunately, there are tons of pigeons so the idea of eating outside is not too appealing. We go inside and order the crab dungeness sandwich and crab chowder in a bread bowl. The sandwich was not anything special. The crab chowder was light on crab. It was actually pretty tasty but seemed more like a corn chowder. We ate inside the restaurant and the front part of the restaurant is open. The pigeons were inside the restaurant; I assume they were looking for bread. I even saw one in the kitchen. This just felt unsanitary to us. Overall, the restaurant just had a dirty look to it. We won't be coming back and I wouldn't recommend. There are plenty of restaurants that serve sourdough bread.

Hey there fellow Yelpers.. sorry for the late review.
Went to this restaurant in one of my adventures in San Francisco.. we had dinner at this place and the food was phenomenal. Customer service was excellent and the food was finger licking good. What I liked about was the variety of culture food offerings I had the empanadas and my hubby the clam chowder, the kids hamburgers and sandwiches, so enough of a variety satisfy our Palate.. will definitely come back to this restaurant.

Great job Boudin, on impressing my visiting Australian cousin with your out of this world sourdough bread bowl clam chowder awesomeness!   Being located in a tourist trap like fisherman's wharf, I was hesitant but pleasantly surprised.  Delicious chowder and fresh bread!

However, your baked goods (non-bread) were day old including your cookies.  With prices like that, surprised to find they were not same day.  Idea for improvement?
